St. Louis modern architecture preservation group ModernSTL hosted “Save the Shanley Building: A Preservation Demonstration” in Clayton on Saturday, May 11, calling it “an important day of action.”

The Harris Armstrong-designed Shanley Building at 7800 Maryland Ave. currently houses the Clayton License Office. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and could face demolition if a proposed development project is approved.

The event began at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild, 12 N. Jackson Ave., with a presentation by Harris Armstrong historian Andrew Raimist. Attendees then marched to the Shanley Building.
