Coffee Cartel, a fixture at Euclid and Maryland in the Central West End for more than two decades, announced its closure this week.
“With great sadness, we regret to say that Tuesday, Oct. 16, will be our final day of business after 22 proud years,” the company wrote on its Facebook page. “Over the past two years we have seen dramatic decreases in sales; 24 percent this year and 11 percent last year. It’s just not possible to continue to operate with monthly losses.”
Coffee Cartel was a sponsor of more than 45 sports teams. Over the years it has contributed donations to more than 450 charities and received over 200 “best of” awards from local, regional and national publications and organizations.
Owner Dennis Gorg said the decision to close was difficult. He said weather, crime statistics, parking or a combination of all of the above could have contributed to the business’s loss of revenue.
MAC properties will be handling the leasing of the space at 2 Maryland Plaza following Coffee Cartel’s closure.
