It didn’t take long, and we probably should have seen it coming. The very day after 62 percent of Missouri voters approved the Clean Missouri Amendment on Nov. 6, the speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives said he wanted to initiate conversations with other lawmakers to start the process of undermining key provisions of that amendment by playing the race card.

Then a group calling itself “Fair Missouri” was formed and funded by the State Republican Committee with the goal of getting a new initiative on the ballot in 2020 that would undo the parts of the amendment dealing with gerrymandering and creating fair legislative districts.

These efforts show a clear disregard and disrespect for Missouri voters and for our cherished democratic processes. These legislators and their special-interest backers clearly care more about representing dollars that representing their constituents. This is an insult to all Missourians. Have they no shame?
