The St. Louis based non-profit transportation organization American Association of Railroaders, Inc. (AAR) has owned a 1958 Trailways bus for 25 years. This historic 61-year-old bus is identical to the buses used by the Freedom Riders in the 1960s.
While the AAR is preparing the bus for presentation to a museum, it has decided to offer the public one last opportunity to experience history by riding this classic bus to visit the Route 66 State Park and Museum.
Five scheduled tours will be offered on Saturday, July 6, departing from the Lowe’s store lot in Kirkwood. Each tour, lasting nearly two hours, will include round trip travel on the historic bus and the visit to the museum.
Departures are at 8:30 and 10:15 a.m., noon, and 1:45 and 3:30 p.m. Reservations may be secured by selecting a departure time and sending a minimum donation of $10 per person to:
9600 Tesson Ferry Road
St. Louis, Missouri 63123
Be sure to include a phone number and a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Stand-by tickets may be available the day of the event at the parking lot. For more information, call 314-631-3131 or visit www.aarstl.org.
