I agree with Daniel B. Bruzzini that Christmas is for everyone to celebrate (Christmas As An All American Holiday, Nov 30 Mailbag). However, not everyone is fortunate to have that chance.

More than 35 million people have died of AIDS so far and it is considered the most destructive pandemic in history. This number is increasing as we speak, but there is hope.

The Global Fund is an international financing organization working to accelerate the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics. It is one of the most effective tools we have to win this fight. Even though the U.S. pledged $4 billion over three years (2017 through 2019) to the Global Fund, it is now facing the threat of budget cuts.

I urge our local representatives Ann Wagner, Lacy Clay and Blaine Luetkemeyer, as well as Senator Blunt and Senator-Elect Hawley to continue funding the Global Fund, and give millions more the chance to celebrate Christmas.
