Runners at the start of last year’s Santas On The Loose Race in the Old Orchard area of Webster Groves. This year’s race is on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Hundreds of runners decked out in their best Santa hats and beards will take to the streets for the seventh annual Santas on the Loose 5K race and 100-yard dash on Saturday, Dec. 1, in Webster Groves.

The timed 5K run will start at 8 a.m. at Gazebo Park, across from 4 S. Old Orchard in Webster Groves. Elves on the Loose, a 100-yard dash for kids age 11 and under, will start at 9 a.m. All abilities are welcome, and a parent may run with a child who is small or needs assistance.

The 5K race will take runners past historic homes in Old Webster, wind through the streets of Webster Groves and then go back to Old Orchard. Medals will be awarded to the first place male and first place female finisher in several age groups. All participants in the Elves on the Loose 100-yard dash will receive a medal. A post-race breakfast will be held at Weber’s Front Row.

Race participants should park in the Webster University garage, 554 Garden Avenue, and are encouraged to use Edgar Road to get to Garden Avenue.

Registration is $35 for the Santas on the Loose 5K and $15 for the Elves on the Loose 100-yard dash. All runners will receive a Santa shirt. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Saint Louis Crisis Nursery, an award-winning child abuse prevention agency providing a 24-hour safe haven for children whose families are experiencing a crisis.

Last year, a record of 512 runners participated in the Santas on the Loose, and $4,000 was given to Saint Louis Crisis Nursery. The run is put on by the Webster Groves/Shrewsbury/Rock Hill Chamber of Commerce and SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital is the presenting sponsor.
