The Kirkwood High School girls basketball team, two-time defending Class 5 state champions, has continued its winning ways.

The Pioneers opened with two victories at the St. Joseph’s Academy Turkey Shootout on Nov. 23-24. Kirkwood opened its season with a 49-47 victory over Columbia Rock Bridge on Nov. 23, and came back to defeat Dexter 45-42 the next day on Nov. 24.

In the win over Rock Bridge, guard Natalie Bruns led the way with 22 points while guard Rylee Mulvaney added 14 points. Bruns also had six rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots. Forward Abby Ludbrook had a team-high nine rebounds.

Against Dexter, Bruns had a team-high 11 points, followed by Mulvaney (10) and Ludbrook (eight). Bruns also had six rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. Ludbrook also had six rebounds and one block shot. Mulvaney corralled five rebounds and had two blocked shots.

Kirkwood plays at McCluer at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 4.
