An army of volunteers assembled in Kirkwood and surrounding communities on Saturday, Oct. 1, for the 16th annual “Hands On Kirkwood,” a day of community service.

Volunteers collected food and other donated goods, cleaned markers at Father Dickson’s Cemetery, assisted citizens with a variety of home projects, collected and hauled away trash and readied vehicles for the upcoming winter driving season.

“Hands On Kirkwood” began in 2007 as a local mission initiative organized by Kirkwood Baptist Church. Since then, Kirkwood Baptist has been joined by many other churches, organizations, institutions, elected officials and citizen volunteers. “It is a simple way — as a group or an individual — to serve others in need,” according to Kirkwood Baptist Church event organizers.
