The Spirit of Christmas was amidst participants in the Meacham Park annual Adopt-A-Family gift giving celebration on Dec. 19. For the first time, a menagerie was part of a Living Nativity, including a llama, camel, donkey, ox, pony, sheep and goats.
Gifts of food, including a ham, turkey and a prepared meal and gift cards were given to twenty families who arrived over a two hour period in a staggered fashion due to COVID-19 restrictions. Over 200 children received candy-filled stockings and enjoyed petting and viewing the animals. Harriet Patton, president of the Meacham Park Neighborhood Improvement Association, originated and organized this activity. Janet Jones of the Moms of Meacham, a Hope Unlimited affiliate, passed out the stockings.
The parking area was transformed into a wonderland of Christmas decorations. Santa entertained everyone. Donations supporting this endeavor were made by Kirkwood businesses and churches. Merriment and happiness abounded within this diverse community which reflected MNIA’s motto, “Come Together, Work Together and Stay Together.”
