Hot Time At July 4 Webster Groves Community Days Celebration

July 06, 2018
The 2018 Webster Groves Community Days kicked off on July 1 and continued through July 4 at 40 Acres at Elm & Glendale with the Lions Club Carnival, Midway Booths and BBQ, plus music, the Miss Webster Pageant on Sunday & Pet Parade on Tuesday. The annual parade through Webster was planned for July 4 along with two nights of fireworks on July 3 and 4.

Crowds braved the heat for a chance to ride the Ferris wheel, cool off with a "Sno-Kone," or gather beneath a tent to enjoy barbecue served by members of the Webster Groves Lions Club. The Webster Groves Lions Club Carnival and Barbecue has been part of the Community Days celebration since 1960.

Judges selected Nakailah Shields Robinson as "Miss Webster" for 2018. The 17-year-old will be entering her senior year at Webster Groves High School. She is the daughter of Mary Robinson and Domerl Shields. The Miss Webster Pageant was held Sunday, July 1.

Elizabeth Young, 9, pulls her sister Audrey and pug, George, in a wagon during Monday night's Pet Parade. They took first place in the competition for Best Float.

Haylii Sondrol, 13, and her dog, Kali, received second place for Best Costume and second place for Best Pet Look-A-Like in the Pet Parade.

Bumper cars are a favorite at the Community Days.

Sylvia Massey, 8, and Kaelyn Krysowaty, 8, take a ride on the Sizzler.

Jayden Hartwick, 4, enjoys an ice cold snow cone on a hot evening at the carnival.

Webster Groves Lion Greg Gossage braves the hot weather cooking ribs for hungry festivalgoers.
