Kirkwood High School's field hockey squad proved last weekend it will be a post-season contender.
Kirkwood rallied to edge Rockwood Summit, 2-1, to take the Rockwood Field Hockey Tournament title on Sept. 8 at Lafayette High School.
Forward Cate Camenzind scored both goals for Kirkwood on assists from senior midfielder Megan Rice.
Kirkwood (4-2 through Sept. 11) saw its four-game winning streak snapped with a 3-0 loss to host Cor Jesu Academy on Sept. 10.
• Kirkwood 58, Marquette 20. Running back Stefan Cameron scored three rushing touchdowns (23, 15 and 29 yards) and running back Martez Jones II added two rushing scores of one yard each to lead the Pioneers to the victory at Marquette on Sept. 6.
Quarterback Cooper Wise tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Maurice Massey. Running back Cole Johnson had a 60-yard touchdown run. Placekicker Kaleb Barry converted a 28-yard field goal and seven extra points.
• Ladue 38, Webster Groves 7. The Statesmen's lone bright spot was a 78-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ryan Lanouette to running back Kameron Yancey. Kicker Joe Nash added the extra point.
• St. John Vianney 42, Jefferson City Helias 7. Wide receiver Kyren Williams accounted for 160 all-purpose yards – 95 yards rushing on nine carries and 55 yards receiving on seven catches – while running back Percy Mitchell gained 159 yards on 21 rushes.
The St. John Vianney Golden Griffins won the St. Dominic Super Cup with a 1-0 victory over Oakville on Sept. 8.
Vianney senior goalie Kyle Diffley has yet to allow a goal in the first six games through Sept. 11.
Vianney (5-0-1) battled to a scoreless tie against CBC on Sept. 11 in the CBC Tournament.
