When Rock Hill moved city hall to 9611 Manchester Road in August 2005, it was only to be for 15 to 18 months while a new city hall was built on North Rock Hill Road.
Now, almost six years later, Arco Construction has acquired the property for its corporate headquarters. The city now plans to move city hall to 320 Thornton where it will to share a building with the police department.
City hall will have 8,000 to 10,000-square-feet in the space formerly held by Desco Systems.
"We now have 2,000-square-feet, so this will allow us to spread out," City Administrator George Liyeos. "Right now the area is warehouse. It will take two to three weeks to reconfigure."
Liyeos said that more than likely, it will be several years before the city builds a new city hall.
The July 19 meeting has been cancelled while the city moves; the Aug. 2 meeting has been cancelled because of "Night Out."
The city will debut its new digs at the board of aldermen's Aug.16 meeting.
