Fenton Ward 2 Alderman Josh Voyles scored an impressive win over long-time alderman and former mayor, Joe Maurath, in Tuesday's election to become the city's newest mayor. Current mayor Michael Polizzi did not seek re-election.
Voyles, elected to the board in 2015 as a write-in candidate, collected just over 60 percent of the vote in defeating Maurath by 919 to 594 votes.
Voyles, 35, is the current president of the Fenton Board of Aldermen. The self-employed realtor has lived in Fenton for 12 years and has a daughter who is attending Lindbergh High School.
"Thank you, friends, residents, local political and business leaders," Voyles said in a written statement. "Your support, endorsements and hard work ensured our win in this election. This was truly a community effort."
Voyle said he is looking forward to bringing new ideas and a new energy to Fenton.
"I would also like to thank Alderman Maurath for a very competitive race and for his past and current service to our city," he said. "Now that the campaigning is over, let's all move forward together to keep Fenton great."
